Artist Statement #2

For my Exquisite Corpse Soundscape I originally planned to do a lo-fi type 'beat.' I wanted to make something chill but it turned out harder to do. Since I come from a background where I was involved in music and played an instrument for more than eight years, I had trouble trying not to create a beat and make music. I also found it a little difficult having to being many everyday sounds and bringing them together to tell a story and paint a picture in your head. In the end, I used a variety of sounds and tried to piece them together so that they created something that put you in a place of comfort. I will say that I got some feedback of it being repetitive and it not being ‘spicy’ enough. Taking this feedback, I should have gone with more effects and not relied solely on just the sounds. Throughout the process, I also kept in mind while taking the beats of what I personally would like to hear when I’m studying. Looking back I could have done many things differently For example, some tunes were not balanced and were louder than others. Next time I plan to try to go the same route but look at it in a different light and make the sounds fit.
